by Jefferson dos Santos Estevo, Laís Forti Thomaz, and Amanda Duarte Gondim (Brazilian Journal of Transport) This article examines the development and utilization of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in Brazil, highlighting their potential and current progress. Civil aviation accounts for about 2% of global Greenhouse Gas emissions, with a recent commitment made by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The primary approach to mitigating aviation emissions is the adoption of SAF. This study is divided into two parts: the first part examines mitigation in civil aviation and understanding SAF, while the second part analyzes the potential and ongoing efforts for SAF in Brazil, its prospects, and possibilities for manufacturing and utilization. The study focuses on three main axes: biofuel production, national policies, and actions of industry companies for emissions reduction. Brazil has extensive expertise in biofuel production technology, which aids in its production, especially through ATJ and FT routes, with national potential of up to 9 billion liters of SAF. The
research will employ literature review, analysis of official speeches, SAF reports, fuel production data, and observation of national agendas and policies on the subject. The main contribution is to understanding stimulation of this agenda, which has recently gained prominence with the approval of the Fuel of the Future Law and the RBQAV.
