Arcadia eFuels Signs Agreement with Hitachi Energy to Deliver Electrical Infrastructure for Vordingborg eSAF Facility

(Arcadia dFuels) Hitachi Energy and Arcadia eFuels have signed an agreement to provide the complete electrical infrastructure for Arcadia eFuels’ upcoming production facility in Vordingborg, Denmark. The plant, being one of the world’s first large scale eSAF facilities, will operate entirely on renewable electricity in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), reducing emissions in the aviation industry. It will feature a 240MW on-site green hydrogen production using water electrolysis.

The grid connection and the battery energy storage system (BESS) needed for the facility to be fully electrified will be delivered by Hitachi Energy, making sure that operations are stable, reliable, and efficient, while strengthening the Danish grid. The company will also be in charge of the complete electrical system engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning work.

The commitment between Hitachi Energy and Arcadia eFuels will ensure the electrical backbone for the facility is in place to support the production of approximately 80,000 tons of eFuels annually, including eSAF, avoiding an estimated 260,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.

The facility in Vordingborg will be the world’s first large-scale Power-to-X plant dedicated to producing eSAF and is expected to be operational before the end of this decade. By combining hydrogen made from renewable electricity with biogenic CO₂, Arcadia eFuels is advancing the development of carbon recycling technology to help decarbonise the aviation sector. This project supports EU climate targets, which require eSAF to account for 0.7% of fuel used at EU airports by 2030, increasing to 35% by 2050.

The project has already received industry and political support, with Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard visiting the site in September alongside Arcadia eFuels CEO, Amy Hebert.
