Delta Refinery Will Convert Plastic Waste to Jet Fuel with Sir Richard Branson-backed Agilyx
by Alex Gailey (Atlanta Business Chronicle) Monroe Energy, Delta’s subsidiary refinery, will start converting plastic waste into jet fuel under an agreement with Agilyx, an environmental technology and development company backed by Sir Richard Branson.
The idea is that the material will help create more renewable jet fuel for the Atlanta-based airline, while simultaneously reducing the amount of plastic in landfills.
“This is a major step forward in the search for a cost effective low carbon aviation fuel,” Branson said in a news release. “The beauty of the Agilyx process is it will take waste plastics, which are a major problem for the environment, and turn it into something useful.”

Delta said it will invest $120 million by the end of the year to provide maintenance and improvements to keep the plant operating for the next four to six years.
The announcement comes shortly after the Georgia Senate signed off a sales tax exemption on jet fuel, which could save Delta nearly $40 million a year. READ MORE
