VAROPreem Starts Supplying Ecolabelled Renewable Diesel Preem Redefine HVO100 in Norway

(VAROPreem) • VAROPreem launches Preem Redefine HVO100, the only Nordic Swan eco-labelled renewable diesel available in Norway. Follows successful introduction in Sweden.

The fuel enables diesel vehicle owners to reduce fossil‑based emissions by at least 90%*, compared with traditional diesel for Norway’s one million diesel‑powered passenger cars and around 700,000 commercial vehicles in operation.
No need to replace existing vehicles. Manufacturer approval recommended before using Preem Redefine HVO100.

VAROPreem is launching Preem Redefine HVO100, a Nordic Swan‑Ecolabelled fuel, in Norway.

The fuel meets the Nordic Swan Ecolabel’s stringent requirements for responsibly sourced, traceable, and controlled feedstocks, and mandatory annual documentation of greenhouse‑gas emissions. It is produced from raw materials such as residues from paper pulp production and food industries. It is not produced from palm oil, palm‑based residues, or soybean oil.

As a result, the fuel delivers a minimum 90% reduction in fossil CO₂ emissions* compared with fossil diesel. This is important because while nearly all newly registered passenger cars in Norway are electric vehicles, there are still more than one million owned diesel passenger cars and around 700,000 diesel‑powered commercial vehicles in operation in the country.

The product is manufactured at VAROPreem’s manufacturing hub in Gothenburg and will initially be made available through bulk sales directly to commercial customers in the Norwegian market.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the Nordic region and is awarded only to products and services that meet strict and rigorous environmental standards.

Magnus Heimburg, Deputy CEO and EVP for Markets and Customer Relations at VAROPreem, said: “Norway sets an example in electrification, and over time much of the vehicle fleet will indeed become fully electric. Produced in Gothenburg at VAROPreem’s manufacturing hub.
Available on the Swedish and Norwegian markets.
Annual production capacity: 300,000 m³.
Nordic Swan‑certified – meets the ecolabel’s fuel criteria.
Renewable diesel chemically comparable to fossil diesel – functions as a fully viable substitute.
At least 90% lower fossil greenhouse‑gas emissions compared with fossil diesel*.
Excellent cold‑weather performance – adapted to Nordic climate.
Raw‑material base contains no palm oil, palm‑based residues, or soybean oil.
Compatible with existing diesel vehicles – manufacturer approval recommended before using Preem Redefine HVO100. If the fuel cap is marked “XTL”, the vehicle is approved for HVO100, including Preem Redefine HVO100.

* The method for calculating greenhouse‑gas emissions (grams CO₂‑eq/MJ) follows Article 31 of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (2018/2001/EU, RED II). The reference value for fossil transport fuel is 94 g CO₂‑eq/MJ, according to Annex V of RED II, and is used to determine percentage reductions.
