The President Affirms that Bolivia Will “Gradually” Replace the Importation of Hydrocarbons with the Production of Biodiesel
(Agencia Boliviana de Informacion (Google Translation)) President Luis Arce affirmed that Bolivia will “gradually” replace the import of hydrocarbons with the production of biodiesel, whose first manufacturing plant will be inaugurated within “a few months.”
On Tuesday, in an interview with the international channel Russia Today (RT), the Bolivian president explained that Bolivia is now in the phase of industrializing its raw materials, to substitute imports.
“In the past we have had a lot of imports and dependence on some raw materials and some products that today we are committed to producing. In Bolivia, we have the raw material, we are capable of producing what we are importing and that is what we are doing,” he said.
In this line, he indicated that the raw materials to produce the diesel that Bolivia requires were identified in the Bolivian Amazon and in other regions of the national territory, these are the macororo, jhatropa and other native products.
To do this, the first stage consists of promoting agriculture to produce these raw materials and the recycling of oils and animal fats, which will allow the country to have energy to replace the importation of hydrocarbons.
“Not only are we going to give sustainability to this demand for hydrocarbons that we have in the country, particularly for diesel; Rather, we are going to afforest many desert regions today with this raw material that produces precisely the oil to make ecological diesel”, he pointed out.
After this phase, there is the stage of construction and start-up of the first Biodiesel Plant – 1 in Bolivia which, according to Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), will be located in the department of Santa Cruz with an investment of $us 40 million.
“We are going to gradually replace everything we imported in hydrocarbons,” said Arce.
According to the State dignitary, with the national production of organic diesel, “this concern will be replaced” by the rise in energy prices due to the international crisis caused by the war in Europe.
According to YPFB data, the first Biodiesel Plant – 1 will produce around 1,500 barrels per day. The “Order to proceed” to manufacture the equipment for this factory was delivered in September 2022 by representatives of
YPFB Refining to the company Desmet Ballestra.
Bolivia aims to produce a cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy. Biofuels of plant origin and used oils (UCO) are low in pollutants and the new product will contribute to reducing imports and state subsidies for diesel. READ MORE
