Rapid Growth for Biomethane in Transport
by Daniela Castim (Bio Market Insights) A significant and quick growth was seen in the use of biomethane as a transport fuel in Europe in 2020, according to a recent data report from NVGA (The Natural & Bio Gas Vehicle Association).
As stated in the report, an “overwhelming amount” of Europe’s 3,810 CNG stations delivered biomethane to European consumers in December 2020. This accounted for more than a quarter of the gas used in road transport being renewable.
Denmark and Sweden were the leading countries that provided biomethane as a transport fuel in 2020, supplying shares of 100% and 95% biomethane at their 17 and 205 CNG stations, respectively. Norway followed closely with 63% biomethane at 31 CNG stations, then Germany (60%, 821 CNG stations), and Finland (59%, 48 CNG stations).
As for the beginning of February 2022, the European gas refuelling infrastructure network consisted of more than 4,110 CNG and 499 LNG stations, where a significantly higher amount of biomethane is available compared to 2020. READ MORE
