(Darlema Corp./PR Newswire) Startup company, Darlema Corp unveils new automobile engine called the CWPSC (Combustion with Pre-Stage Compression) that doubles gas mileage and reduces carbon emissions by 50%. This new spark ignition engine achieves efficiency rating of 53-57% at the vehicle wheel, uses conventional fuels, doesn't have a throttle and does not use a turbo.
Test results of the Demo unit of the new CWPSC engine undergoing performance tests at the Darlema Corp facility in Lodi NJ, confirmed the results. The compression ratio of this spark ignition (SI) engine is 30:1. Demo unit achieved 60 mpg under load at 62 mph. The idling consumption at 720 rpm was 0.6 Liters/Hour. CO2 emissions ranged between 78-94 CO2/km (50% less than current ICE's) at 17.5 Kwh. Engine efficiency -53-57%.
The automotive industry has been battling for over 100 years to increase the compression ratio of spark ignition engines which currently stands at around 10:1 and or eliminate the throttle device unit without any success. These issues have been resolved and the demo unit successfully passed the test. The efficiency has been greatly increased.
Matt Mulhern, Vice President of Darlema, Corp. explained that the technology enables the engine to operate outside the parameters of conventional internal combustion engine by controlling the air temperature and pressure during intake.
Mulhern stated that the automotive and trucking industry can use this technology to meet the original federal fuel consumption and carbon emission mandates with minimal infrastructural changes to implement. Motorists would enjoy going twice as far on a tank of gas as well as reducing the pollutants by 50%.
Mulhern also stated that this technology's carbon emissions are actually lower than what the electric engine achieves when you figure in the emissions generated by producing the electricity and the energy lost through the transmission of the power to charge the battery of EV. READ MORE

It has these features:
Design Industry LLC. is a small research company located in NJ. It has developed a new engine for the transportation industry called the CWPSC engine. We have patents granted on this technology. One is for the “CWPSC” Engine (Combustion with Pre-Stage Compression). US Patent # 9,494,075 and EPO Patent Application # EP3114336B1– The patent is approved in the USA, Australia, Europe, Japan, China, South Korea, India, Russia and Iran. It is still pending in Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
This engine does several things that auto industry has failed to do in the past. Describing quickly the CWPSC engine, it is a petrol spark ignition engine that removes the throttle device completely therefore this is the world’s first throttle-less engine and has a compression ratio of 30:1, therefore the world’s first spark ignition ultra-high compression engine.
The auto industry has tried hard in the past 100 years or so to achieve these two elements, remove the throttle and increase the compression ratio, without success. All engines of today that are spark ignition use throttle and have a compression ratio of about less than 12:1.

Tests on a 260 HP engine of 1.86 liter size, 30:1 compression ratio, no throttle running on regular 87 gasoline concluded the following:
• 60-62 miles per gallon under load at 65 miles an hour. 100% improvement in fuel economy at 17.3kwh power or highway driving. The engine produced 17.30kwh from 1 gallon of gasoline @1,800 rpm. Existing engines need 2 gallons to produce the same power.
• CO2 emissions were 82-88 grams CO2/km. This is 60-65% less than today’s internal combustion engine. The engine can run on ethanol E10, E50, E85 etc. if desired. By a comparison an electric vehicle (EV) produces 110gr-125gr CO2 /km when considering an efficiency of 60% of an electric power plant that produces electricity, for the same engine power.
• A regular vehicle sedan 4 doors that weighs about 3,900lb with a CWPSC 1.86Liter engine 260 HP and a gas tank of 20 Gallons will allow for 1,200 miles driving while being very easy on the environment and which will give customers a state of mind that their vehicle will not get stuck on the road for lack of electric energy as EV do. CWPSC is a true green engine.
Idling fuel consumption: 1/3 of that of current internal combustion engines. It consumed only 500 grams of gasoline or 0.6 Liters during idling at 720 rpm. That is about 60% to 65% less than today’s engines that consume about 1.4 to 1.8 Liters or 200% improvement on idling fuel consumption. (In stop and go traffic there is negligible pollution and hardly any fuel consumed).
The CWPSC engine is a major upgrade to the Internal Combustion Engine and has features that have previously been unattainable. The features are as follows:
• The engine has an efficiency rating of 52% - 54% at the wheel, tested.
• This engine operates as a “stoichiometric burn” engine and it will replace exiting regular gasoline and Diesel engines currently on the road.
• A regular size 4-door vehicle with this engine would get 60-65 miles per gallon in highways.
• The combined MPG rating for the city and highways is 47 MPG to 52 MPG for regular 4 doors sedans.
• The engine is smaller and lighter than current engines. It is a single cam head non turbo engine. The test unit used 4 cylinders as working cylinders and 2 cylinders as pre-compressor.
• This engine eliminates the pumping losses completely due to having the throttle device removed. There is only a minor pumping loss while operating at 40KPA (0.4Bars) during idling that disappears quickly as power requirement moves up over 6kw. Maximum operating pressure at full power is 3.75 Bars.
• The engine has exceptional power capabilities - A 1 liter engine of this design will generate 140 HP @6,000 RPM. Recommended “Version I” with compression ratio chosen between 29.4:1 and 30:1 or higher, it achieves the highest compression ratio in existence. The world’s first ultra-high compression ratio spark ignition engine.
• This engine can be used as a good compliment to an electric motor to combine in a hybrid vehicle if desired. A 1.5 liter size of this engine @ 210hp would be able to charge the battery and move the vehicle around but it is not recommended because it would be not necessary to build hybrid vehicles with this engine due to very high efficiency.
Due to the fact that the CWPSC engine wastes no energy, the heat produced from the engine will mostly be used mostly to keep the engine warm. The fact that this engine is of such ultra-high efficiency will allow for the new vehicles with this engine on it to use electricity generated by the engine or the AC compressor heat pump to warm up the cabin the same way they cool with AC today and that would be instant cabin warm up same as it is cooling now. That means no more waiting for the engine to warm up before the heat of the engine can be used for cabin to warm up. The worlds’ first immediate start up cabin warm up.
• The engine meets the requirements set by the Paris accord of November 4th 2016 and as well as US government goal of combined light duty vehicles of year 2025 MPG rating. The current combined MPG rating for the existing newest vehicles on the road is around 26MPG to 28 MPG which is far away from the goal of 54MPG set by US government.
