UT Algae Research
(Algae Industry Magazine) Toledo, Ohio, has certainly seen its share of unwanted algae over the past years. Now, a new research program is looking toward the potential of turning that algae into useful products. The University of Toledo was recently awarded nearly $2.4 million by the United States Department of Energy to develop a way to turn algae into fuel without adding carbon dioxide.
“For our community algae seems to be just this bad idea but there are positives to algae,” UT Associate Professor Dr. Sridhar Viamajala says. “There is potential to make fuels and products from algae and it’s not just a nuisance and a health hazard.”
Montana State University, Arizona State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are also part of the three-year project. READ MORE Includes VIDEO
