Toledo Trials Green Hydrogen Bus, It also Plans Station for Municipal Fleet
(Toledo City Council/NGV Journal) The mayor of Toledo Milagros Tolón visited Inael Electrical Systems’ facilities where a demonstration of a renewable hydrogen bus took place, confirming the interest of the municipal government in turning Toledo into a pioneering city in the development of sustainable mobility solutions. As part of this strategy, the mayor announced that in the future they could add this green hydrogen technology not only in urban transport but also in the entire municipal fleet, including the concessionaires.
The City Council and the Community Board also participate in the Sustainable Mobility Hub of Toledo, an Inael project with the aim of developing a refueling station that provides and supplies green hydrogen to the city’s vehicle fleet.
In this context, the pilot test was organized in order to verify the performance of a bus powered by renewable hydrogen. The vehicle being tested offers a solution that enhances the economic and environmental benefits of green hydrogen, moving towards an environment free of carbon dioxide, the main cause of rapid global warming.
For his part, the CEO of Inael Ángel David Lara explained that they have been working on this project for two years, taking advantage of the Next Generation European funds to which they have participated with various initiatives to promote the production and supply of green hydrogen. He also commented that the pilot has already made it possible to demonstrate that the bus can travel more than 450 kilometers on a single refueling, taking into account “the complicated orography of Toledo.”
The future hydrogen station that Inael plans to install in the Toledo Industrial Park could be open in two years and would have a capacity of 2 photovoltaic megawatts, one for hydrogen and the other for electric vehicles.
It should be remembered that Toledo has already renewed its urban bus fleet with clean burning natural gas vehicles. READ MORE
