Student Scientist Uses Algae to Filter out Lead Contaminated Water
A senior at Tucson, Arizona’s Immaculate Heart High School, Amanda Minke’s goal is to find ways to create clean lead-free water for small rural communities around the world. For the Regeneron Science Talent Search competition she developed a device which removes lead-contamination in water by utilizing algae, called the Wet Algae Mechanical Filter (WAMF).
“With my system…it’s very important to get it out into the world and into the hands of people,” she said.
