RFA Publishes E15 Countdown Clock, Calculator and FAQs
(Renewable Fuels Association) E15. Clean. Affordable. Domestic. Fuel. There’s been a lot of talk recently about “E15,” a biofuel blend of gasoline that contains 15 percent ethanol, a product that comes from crops grown by American farmers. E15 burns cleaner and cooler than gasoline, lowers gas prices, and reduces oil imports. Unfortunately, old regulations that protected the oil industry from competition have prevented E15 from being sold in the summer months. But President Trump promised to make E15 available all year and directed the Environmental Protection Agency to take action. EPA says it will make good on President Trump’s commitment before June 1, 2019. We hope they’re right, and we’re counting down the days left for EPA to make good on the President’s pledge to eliminate the E15 summertime ban.
E15 HOLDS DOWN PRICES AT THE PUMP.
Using ethanol in the U.S. fuel marketplace helps lower gasoline prices by expanding gasoline supplies and reducing the need for importing expensive, high-octane, petroleum-based gasoline components or more crude oil from unstable parts of the world like the Middle East. You can find more consumer information here or use our Ethanol Savings Calculator to find out how much you can save by fueling up with E15.
E15 REDUCES THE EMISSIONS THAT CAUSE AIR POLLUTION.
Ethanol is an affordable and effective tool for reducing emissions from the transportation sector that are harmful to our health. Because ethanol is a pure compound that is 35 percent oxygen, it burns more cleanly and completely than gasoline, which can contain as many as 1,000 unique compounds. Reducing these emissions means fewer cases of respiratory illnesses, asthma, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, and even fewer premature deaths.
E15 HELPS FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE BY LOWERING CARBON EMISSIONS.
Ethanol helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40-50% compared to petroleum. By displacing hydrocarbon substances like aromatics in gasoline, ethanol significantly reduces emissions of air toxics, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides, and exhaust hydrocarbons.

E15 LOWERS AMERICA’S NEED TO IMPORT FOREIGN OIL.
Increased ethanol production continues to help diversify our nation’s fuel pool and dampen the impacts of petroleum market shocks. You can read more about how ethanol helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil here.

Want to know if your vehicle is approved for E15?
9 out of 10 cars on the road are, so the answer is probably yes, but you can read more about ethanol’s impact on your engine here. READ MORE
