(aireg – Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany eV) Heute finden erneut Trilogverhandlungen zur ReFuelEU Aviation Gesetzesinitiative statt, die eine europaweite Beimischungsverpflichtung für nachhaltige Flugkraftstoffe (SAF) einführen wird. Diese können die CO2- und Nicht-CO2 bezogene Klimawirkung des Luftverkehrs deutlich senken. Dieses Potenzial lässt sich am besten ausnutzen, wenn SAF möglichst gezielt auf den Flugrouten mit hoher Kondensstreifen-Klimawirkung eingesetzt werden. Gleichzeitig ist die Verfügbarkeit von SAF derzeit stark begrenzt. Deshalb müssen alle nachhaltigen Rohstoffoptionen zur Herstellung von SAF verwendet werden können, um entscheidend zur Erreichung des Ziels Netto-Nullemissionen in 2050 beizutragen. Die Mitglieder von aireg haben zu diesen beiden Themen zwei Positionspapiere erstellt, die beide auf der aireg Homepage abrufbar sind:
SAF können CO2-Emissionen um etwa 80 % bis fast 100 % reduzieren. Außerdem wird die Klimawirkung durch Kondensstreifen durch geringere Partikelemissionen reduziert. Beide Effekte tragen zur Verringerung der globalen Erwärmung bei. Ein gezielter Einsatz von SAF auf Flugrouten mit hoher Kondensstreifen-Klimawirkung vervielfacht den Effekt um den Faktor 3,3 im Vergleich zu einer gleichmäßigen Verteilung.
Eine rasche Steigerung des SAF-Angebots ist unabdingbar. In der europäischen Luftfahrt ist ein SAF-Anteil von 10 % im Jahr 2030 erreichbar, inkl. eines höheren PtL-Anteils als die von der Politik bislang vorgeschlagenen 0,7%. Entscheidend dafür ist ein politischer Rahmen, der einen sofortigen Ausbau der Produktionskapazitäten ermöglicht. Das Ziel von 10 % SAF im Jahr 2030 bedeutet, dass alle nachhaltigen Produktionswege unterstützt werden müssen. Neben PtL-Flugkraftstoffen sind auch biogene Flugkraftstoffe zur Erreichung der Klimaziele notwendig. Die Bundesregierung bereitet derzeit eine nationale Biomassestrategie (NABIS) vor. Darin sollte – nach einer marktwirtschaftlichen und ökologischen stofflichen Nutzung – die energetische Nutzung von Biomasse für Mobilität priorisiert werden.

ReFuelEU Aviation Trilogue: The targeted use of all SAF is an important step towards achieving the climate goals in aviation
Trilogue negotiations on the ReFuelEU Aviation legislative initiative are taking place again today, which will introduce a Europe-wide admixture obligation for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). These can be the CO 2 and non-CO 2significantly reduce the related climate impact of air traffic. This potential can best be exploited if SAF are used as specifically as possible on flight routes with a high impact on the climate caused by contrails. At the same time, the availability of SAF is currently very limited. Therefore, all sustainable raw material options must be able to be used to produce SAF in order to make a significant contribution to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions in 2050. The members of aireg have prepared two position papers on these two topics, both of which can be accessed on the aireg homepage:
SAF can reduce CO 2 emissions by around 80% to almost 100%. In addition, the effect on the climate caused by contrails is reduced due to lower particle emissions. Both effects contribute to reducing global warming. Targeted use of SAF on flight routes with a high impact on the climate caused by contrails multiplies the effect by a factor of 3.3 compared to an even distribution.
A rapid increase in the SAF supply is essential. In European aviation, a SAF share of 10% is achievable in 2030, including a higher PtL share than the 0.7% previously proposed by politicians. Crucial to this is a political framework that enables an immediate expansion of production capacities. The target of 10% SAF in 2030 means that all sustainable production routes must be supported. In addition to PtL aviation fuels, biogenic aviation fuels are also necessary to achieve climate targets. The federal government is currently preparing a national biomass strategy (NABIS). In it, the energetic use of biomass for mobility should be prioritized after a market-based and ecological material use.
