Praj Celebrates Inauguration of Second-Generation Ethanol Plant
by Erin Voegele (Ethanol Producer Magazine) On May 7, Praj Industries Ltd. unveiled a demonstration-scale biorefinery capable of producing 1 MMly of cellulosic ethanol. The facility, located near Pune, India, is expected demonstrate the production of additional renewable fuels and chemicals in the future.
According to Praj, the facility can process a wide range of biomass feedstocks, including rice and wheat straw, cotton stalk, bagasse, can trash, and corn cobs and stover. The company noted the facility features its proprietary platform technology, enfinity, for the manufacture of ethanol from agri-waste materials.
“Our country is paving its way toward greater energy self-reliance,” said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, at the plant’s inauguration.

In a statement, Praj indicated India plans to develop 10 to 12 second-generation ethanol projects, each with a capacity to produce 100,000 liters (26,417 gallons) of ethanol per day. READ MORE
