Oxy Considering Carbon Capture Project
by James Osborne (Houston Chronicle) The Houston oil company Occidental Petroleum is studying a carbon capture project to deliver carbon dioxide to its oil fields in West Texas, the company announced Tuesday.
Engineers are expected to spend six months studying the feasibility of piping carbon dioxide from White Energy’s ethanol facilities in Plainview and Hereford, both located in the Texas panhandle, with operations slated to begin as soon as 2021.
The announcement comes four months after Congress passed a budget deal expanding the tax credits earned by carbon capture projects.
Through carbon capture, carbon dioxide emissions are separated out from air emissions to be stored or used for increasing oil production and in other industrial applications. READ MORE
