Opening Second Tender Global Sustainable Biomass Fund
The Global Sustainable Biomass Fund supports developing countries in making their biomass production for energy uses sustainable. It thus enables them to access the local or international market of sustainable biomass for energy uses. The overall goal of the subsidy is to enhance sustainable economical growth, the improvement of people’s living conditions and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. The Global Sustainable Biomass Fund fits into the Netherlands’ wider purpose of contributing towards the achievement f the United Nations’ eight Millennium Development Goals. The fund focuses particularly on Goal 1 (eradicating extreme poverty and hunger) and Goal 7 (creating a sustainable environment).
Starting 16 October 2009, projects may be submitted for the second tender of the Global Sustainable Biomass Fund, a grant regulation under the responsibility of the Minister for Development Cooperation. This regulation is aimed towards supporting the sustainable production of biomass for energy purposes, both for own (national) use and for exporting. The closing date of the second tender is 12 January 2010.
The fund aims specifically at nine countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Colombia, Nicaragua, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa. Projects in or with these countries have priority over projects in other ODA countries. By subsidising these projects, the Minister for Development Cooperation wishes to contribute to the achievement of the millennium goals by 2015: halving the number of people living in extreme poverty (goal 1) and creating a sustainable environment (goal 7). The development and application of certification and macro monitoring are important aspects. READ MORE
