Clean energy has reached an inflection point, and how we discuss it and how we deploy it will never be the same. So we knew it was time to create an EnergyFactCheck that reflects this new reality. What follows is an explanation of some of the changes to this site, our mission, and what you can expect in the months to come.
In this era of unprecedented federal inaction, many of the most important policy debates now take place on the state level. We added state profiles to make sure voters, journalists, and policymakers have the tools they need to be informed participants in those debates. These state profiles will be constantly updated with the latest news, facts, reports, blog posts, and even a fact check, if it’s warranted. As always, it will all be fully cited.
The media cycle got faster. So did we. This blog, The Spotlight, will inject the sort of context that is too often missing from our energy debate in real-time. We’ll be able to discuss the stories driving the day and provide our readers with the succinct, more digestible fact checks that today’s media environment demands.
We’ve also shifted how we sort our facts, news, and resources. We created industry portfolios and split them into two categories: topics (Costs, Jobs, Investment, National Security, Reliability) and technologies (Solar, Wind, Hydropower, Geothermal, Biomass, Biofuels, Energy Efficiency). This should make it easier than ever to get the facts on the renewable energy industry in America.
Our mission remains the same. We aim to provide some sorely needed balance to America’s energy debate. Fossil fuel interests have doubled their efforts to spread misinformation about renewables, and we hope to provide an important counterbalance to that. We also want to be a resource for anyone interested in the industry, be they CEOs or a student writing an essay. We’ll continue to cite everything on this website, so that you can check out the source for yourself and decide what to think.
