ONLINE ONLY GC&E Student Workshop — June 15, 2020 —

Students and post-doctoral scholars are encouraged to attend the free annual GC&E Student Workshop taking place on the day before the GC&E Conference starts. This year’s workshop will focus how to assess the sustainability and safety of your chemistry. There will also be plenty of opportunity to network with fellow students and green chemistry leaders throughout the day, including during the provided lunch, as well as a networking reception with green chemistry leaders from industry, academia and non-profits at the end of the day.
A $25 refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot in the workshop. Just make sure to register for the workshop when you complete your Conference registration. Refunds will be issued after the Conference to students who attended the workshop.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Interested in greener approaches but unsure how to assess the sustainability of your research? In this workshop, you will learn:
- How to use the RAMP process for chemical safety and how to perform a job hazard analysis
- How to use green chemistry tools to make greener selections
- How to evaluate greenness using green chemistry metrics
- How to do an overall evaluation: Is it safer, greener? Why, or why not? What are the tradeoffs?
WORKSHOP FACILITATORS
- Kendra Denlinger, Teaching Professor, Xavier University
- David Constable, Science Director, ACS Green Chemistry Institute

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to rethink this conference to ensure the safety of our meeting attendees, the surrounding community and our ACS staff. After careful consideration, we do not feel it would be safe to continue this event as originally planned. We have instead decided to transition the GC&E Conference to a virtual event.
Providing a way to share scientific research, as well as opportunities for engagement and discussion, are our top priorities. This is a rapidly evolving discussion, and we will provide additional updates as we move forward.
For up-to-date information, please see our conference website: https://www.gcande.org/virtual-conference/
The Virtual GC&E Conference will be held June 15-19, 2020 and will be made available free of charge to the global community. We will be reopening registration for the event starting April 20, and we encourage you to share this special opportunity with your colleagues, students and friends. Participants will be able to engage with the science and their colleagues through a mix of recorded and live presentations, as well as live chats, Q&As and networking opportunities. Additional details are available on our website at www.gcande.org/program.
Let’s use this opportunity to introduce green chemistry and engineering to those who might not otherwise have been able to attend!
