Feedstock Logistics: Myths, Mysteries, and Misconceptions
by Bob Matousek (Manager of Plant and Harvesting Research and Development, Agco Corporation) Mr. Matousek’s presentation discusses techniques for collecting corn crop residues into solid bales that can be transported to fuel production facilities. He details research performed on equipment to collect, stack, and store bales at high-moisture conditions. The equipment described can collect these crops without compromising the field for other crop rotations, and can work with all kinds of cellulosic crops. Finally, Matousek discusses delivery procedures for crop bales once they have sufficiently dried to minimize transportation costs.
The presentation includes many great pictures of biomass collection, handling, storage, and transportation, along with calculations for costs associated with feedstock logistics in biofuel production. READ MORE
