Dennis Seid: Enerkem’s Ethanol Plant Still a No-Go
by Dennis Seid (Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal) … In fact, if you visit Enerkem’s website, there’s no mention of Pontotoc. Nothing on its facilities or projects – where Pontotoc once had a prominent location. Nothing when you do a search for “Pontotoc.”
It’s as if the project never existed. But that’s not the case, said Marie-Helene Labrie, the company’s vice president of government affairs and communications.
“Enerkem is currently primarily focusing its efforts on its waste-to-chemicals and biofuels facility in Edmonton, Canada,” she wrote in an email. “In parallel, the company is developing several projects in Canada, the U.S. and abroad based on its standard plant design. The Pontotoc project is part of our pipeline of projects in the U.S.. We intend to leverage the experience gained with our Edmonton plant for our projects in the U.S. At this stage, we are not in a position to give more details about the project.”

The Edmonton plant finally was launched last June, with capability to produce 10 million gallons of ethanol annually – the amount Pontotoc is, or was, supposed to be able to produce as well.
As for those other projects Labrie mentioned:
• In October, the company announced “agreements with industrial partners in China to develop project partnerships to jointly build municipal solid waste-to-biofuels and chemicals facilities.”
• In November, it announced it had partnered with “global chemicals leader AkzoNobel to jointly operate development of waste-to-chemicals facilities in Europe.” READ MORE
