Creative Discovery Museum Launches New Biofuels Website
(Creative Discovery Museum) Did you know that fuel can be made from things like switchgrass, algae and trees? They’re called biofuels and they are all around us. Creative Discovery Museum has created a new educational website, LearnBiofuels.org that will help you discover the amazing ways that fuel can be created through renewable non-food source materials.
With the rising price and increasing scarcity of traditional energy sources, research into the study and development of biofuels is becoming more important by the day. With the latest research articles and fun educational activities related to biofuels, LearnBiofules.org is a one stop shop for everyone who wants to learn more about the future of energy.
“Through the Farming for Fuels program, we and our museum partners across the nation have delivered current scientific information on biofuels and other alternative energy sources to over 100,000 individuals,” said Wayne Robinson, Ph.D., Biofuels Coordinator at Creative Discovery Museum. “With the recent addition of our exciting new Biofuels website, the Museum will be able to continue to champion the cause of educating everyone about sustainable and renewable energy options.”
Creative Discovery Museum’s Farming for Fuels program is a series of classroom education lessons presented through the Museum’s school outreach program, Museum-A-Go-Go. The program provides lessons by Museum outreach staff for Grades 4-7 on the scientific processes for creating biofuels from switchgrass rather than from corn.
Also available on the website is the popular free Road Trip Challenge iPad app developed by the Museum. Users of the app are able to choose and customize a vehicle, then select types of alternative fuels and travel to familiar destinations across the country. The game incorporates lessons that explore fuel efficiency, availability and environmental impact resulting from choices that are made during different legs of the digital journey.
The Road Trip Challenge app is available for download at http://www.learnbiofuels.org/road-trip-challenge or on iTunes.com.
Funding for the development of LearnBiofuels.org and the Road Trip Challenge app was provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the BioEnergy Science Center. READ MORE and MORE (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) and MORE
