Consider the Fully Burdened Price of Fuel over Memorial Day Holiday
by Joanne Ivancic (Advanced Biofuels USA) As we watch transportation fuel prices rise as we celebrate the beginning of Northern Hemisphere summer and, in the US, as we memorialize those who have died in service to their country, let us consider the fully burdened price of fuel.
Consider not only the environmental damage from extracting and using fossil fuels, but think also about the vulnerability of countries when they depend on others to provide essential energy.
And think about ways to prevent continued conflict over energy security. Look toward the freedom that can result from energy independence.

Biofuels Digest’s Jim Lane used this map to explain the volatility inherent in current petroleum-based transportation fuel supplies, transport and use.
As VoteVets.org puts it, “America needs homegrown American energy — not more dangerous dependence on foreign oil.”
And think of the Truman Center’s Operation Free. Operation Free consists of veterans and national security experts who recognize that climate change and our dependence on oil are national security threats.
Members advocate for policies at all levels of government that reduce our dependence on oil, fight climate change, and make our economy more competitive. From testifying at public hearings to writing op-eds to helping to promote a film that delivers the message, Operation Free has the unique ability to discuss climate change as a national security issue.
And take inspiration from the US military leadership in transitioning to renewable fuels.

But, if you just want to think about the price of the fuel to power your vehicle, have a look at these potential savings.
And take time this summer to learn about the health and performance benefits of home-grown renewable biofuel.
