Colombia’s Ecopetrol Granted Clean Diesel Patent in Malaysia
(Latin American Herald Tribune) Colombian state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol said it was granted a patent by Malaysia to produce diesel that is cleaner and comes from renewable sources.
“The Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) granted a patent for the process defined as ‘obtaining diesel from vegetable oils or animals via hydrotreatment with reduced standing time and products obtained from same,’” Ecopetrol said in a statement.
The process, which was developed by the Colombian Petroleum Institute, produces a biofuel called Biocetano that is the result of adding hydrogen to oils from vegetables, animals and other sources.
Ecopetrol has been granted a patent for this technology in Colombia and patent applications have been filed in the United States, Brazil, Europe and Indonesia. READ MORE
