It requires oil companies to offer consumers clean, renewable choices at the gasoline pump, including blends of homegrown ethanol produced from agricultural products. For family farms like mine, it provides a vital market for our crops, helping rural communities to stay strong in difficult times and preserve our traditions for future generations. Ethanol also displaces cancer-causing chemicals in gasoline. And it allows for better performing engines that have greater fuel efficiency. Some argue ethanol is a less potent fuel than gasoline, but these arguments ignore the fact ethanol has the highest octane of available additives, which makes it ideal for high-performance engines.
