(Destak.pt) The environmental association Zero was satisfied today with the end of palm oil in biodiesel in Europe, in 2022, and wants Portugal to confirm the abandonment of this product by transposing the European directive into national legislation.
In a statement, the non-governmental organization said it warned, in July, of the "worrying scenario" resulting from the rise in palm oil consumption in the production of biofuels in Portugal, between 2017 and 2019, which more than quintupled, by increase from 7.6 million liters to 40.7 million liters.
The environmental association considers "a positive sign" the fact that the Portuguese Government has accepted, in the context of discussion in the specialty of the State Budget for 2021, the PAN proposal so that during 2021 steps should be taken to restrict, as of 01 January 2022, the commercialization of fuels and the production of biofuels containing palm oil.
