Sensenbrenner’s Position Isn’t Best for Wisconsin
by Bob Sather (Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel/Wisconsin Bio-Industry Alliance) This week, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) once again failed to support Wisconsin, instead choosing to target an industry that generates more than a billion dollars annually for the state’s economy.
Sensenbrenner’s push for legislation to delay Environmental Protection Agency approval of 15% ethanol gasoline is shortsighted.
The Wisconsin ethanol industry is truly homegrown, adding value to Wisconsin farmers, contributing billions to the economy and providing a choice for consumers.
His continued opposition to the ethanol industry and its products is puzzling, particularly when you consider that Wisconsin is one of the country’s top ethanol-producing states, currently ranked ninth in the nation with an annual output of nearly 500 million gallons.
At a time when the entire nation is struggling to pull itself out of a stagnant economy, introducing legislative efforts clearly meant to harm Wisconsin’s ethanol industry is discouraging. READ MORE
