More Biofuel Pumps at Missouri Gas Stations
by Mindy Ward (Farm Progress) Consumers will have more biofuel,ethanol choices at the gas pump. — Mark Cadle sees the investment in biofuel infrastructure in Missouri as a win-win-win. “The goal is to expand markets for farmers, support rural economic growth, and provide customers with more choices at the gas pump,” Cadle, director of the Missouri Farm Service Agency. “It is going to benefit the entire state.”

“The BIP grant will make ethanol blends more readily available in our state,” says Missouri’s director of agriculture, Richard Fordyce. “While gas stations make it easy for motorist to choose between regular and super grade petroleum at the pump, few stations allow motorist to make a similar choice when it comes to a blend of ethanol and petroleum.”

The application calls for the addition of 171 pumps across the state. “The grant was written for the interstate corridor, as well as, the large metropolitan areas of Kansas City, St. Louis, and Springfield,” Schad explains. However, there is one retailer, in the small northeastern Missouri town of LaBelle, that also shown an interest. “They do a decent amount of (ethanol) volume there.”

Currently, Missouri has 115 stations that have blender pumps. These pumps are designed to dispense ethanol-blended gasoline, ranging from unleaded to up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. They also allow consumers to choose mid-level ethanol blends such as E15, E20 and E30. Schad estimates that roughly 55 locations have at least one E 85 pump. READ MORE
