MME Flexible Voluntary Mixing of Percentage of Biodiesel to Diesel
(Brazil Ministry of Mines and Energy (Google Translation)) The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Wednesday (4) ordinance that flexibilizes the voluntary mixture of percentages of biodiesel to the mineral. The measure aims to expand biodiesel consumption in the country.
Now, large consumers served by their own point of supply, such as carriers and bus companies that have their own diesel tanks, can use up to 20% biodiesel in the supply. For agricultural, industrial and rail use, the blend can be up to 30%. For experimental, specific use or in other applications, it is possible to use 100% biodiesel. Before, lower percentages, such as B15 (15%) and B18 (18%), for example, were not allowed.
The flexibilization promoted by the ordinance has the potential to increase the consumption of biofuel, especially where biodiesel is usually cheaper than diesel, as is the case in the South and Midwest regions. Thus, with the expansion of the consumption of renewable fuels, it is hoped to promote new competitiveness for the sector, with the possibility of reducing prices for the consumer, as well as environmental, economic and social advantages in line with the National Biofuels Policy (RenovaBio) .
