Letters: A Fortune in Biofuels Being Left on the Table
by LeRoy Deichman (Herald-Whig) Existing intellectual property and current production practices hold the promise to enable Missouri’s 5th District to produce enough biofuels to displace all of the gasoline currently purchased by our residents and all of the diesel fuel used to plant and harvest the corn and soybeans grown in the district. We also have the potential to displace significant quantities of LP and natural gas.
The stark reality is that we are leaving a fortune in biofuel returns on the table by not producing and filling any local consumer demand. Therefore we are sending our dollars outside of our district to acquire our energy needs.
In incremental terms, the larger the consumer demand is for fossil fuel products, the easier it is for the Middle East terrorists to fund their efforts to hurt us and our country.
Failing to utilize valuable renewable resources as well as local investment and labor guarantees less than any potential prosperity we might be enjoying. READ MORE
