Letter to the Editor: Ethanol Important to Consumers

by Bob Dinneen (Renewable Fuels Association/Tulsa World)  The staggering number of misstatements about ethanol contained in Tulsa World Editorial Pages Editor Wayne Greene’s column would fill a barrel (“Refiners over a barrel … and the barrel is full of ethanol,” Nov. 19).

Here are some irrefutable facts: Ethanol is cheaper than gasoline and is saving consumers at the pump; ethanol is cleaner and less toxic than gasoline, improving public health and the environment; U.S.-produced ethanol is the lowest cost in the world, creating opportunities for export and lowering the balance of trade.

The renewable fuel standards are helping to break Big Oil’s near-monopoly at the pump and provide consumers with a choice. That should be celebrated, not criticized.  READ MORE
