We are delivering more than originally planned: instead of a physical conference from 30 Nov to 2 Dec 2020, BBEST/BIOFUTURE has expanded to include online webinars and conferences in 2020 and a presential conference, at the same venue, from 24 to 26 May 2021. Therefore, BBEST/BIOFUTURE will be starting now and will go on until May 2021.
We concluded that it is unlikely that we could physically meet in a hotel in São Paulo in November 2020 because of the way the COVID-19 pandemic is progressing. Then we adjusted to having our conference rolling in 2020 – because there are many important things to discuss – and convene in May for plenary and parallel sessions. The new plans are:
- August and October 2020: BBEST/BIOFUTURE Kick off with two webinars to get started with high impact themes related to bioenergy and bioeconomy. All registered BBEST/BIOFUTURE participants are already registered to the webinars. FIRST WEBINAR: August 13th, 2020, 14:00 h (São Paulo Time). A specific invitation with the link will follow soon.
- 30 Nov to 2 Dec 2020: instead of the on-site conference, a series of online events including a brief policy day forum and reformulated Poster Sessions with more exposure and more opportunities of interaction among the participants and sponsors. Best Poster Prizes will be delivered as well as Conference Certificates.
- 24 to 26 May 2021 (tbc): a physical conference to close BBEST/BIOFUTURE SUMMIT 2020-2021 at the Renaissance Conference Center in São Paulo. The original program is being updated but, as planned, we will have a Policy Day, Parallel Sections, Round Tables, Exhibits, Technical Tours and all the interesting activities we already had.
All BBEST/BIOFUTURE 2020 registered participants are already registered for the 2020-2021 events. Those who submitted oral or poster contributions will have the opportunity to update or even change their papers. Registered participants who cannot attend on the new dates can also transfer their paid registration to colleagues to present their papers.
We will keep you posted on all the forthcoming activities. See you at the BBEST/BIOFUTURE SUMMIT! READ MORE
There is an emerging international consensus that scaling up the sustainable low carbon bioeconomy is an imperious necessity. The best ways and instruments to achieve this goal are also being tried by countries, entrepreneurs, and scientists around the world. Join policy makers from the 20 Biofuture Platform founding countries, industry stakeholders, researchers and others in the second edition of the Biofuture Summit, in São Paulo, exchange lessons in national policies, innovation, technologies, financing, and supply chain management, and help build a blueprint for the global biofuture we need.
The Summit is jointly organized by the government of Brazil as a Member of the Biofuture Platform, a 20-government multilateral initiative; by the International Energy Agency (IEA), as the Biofuture Platform´s Facilitator; and by the Brazilian Association for Bioinnovation (ABBI).
The program for the event, logistics, and registration will be available soon. Participation is free for invitees, subject to availability. READ MORE
II Biofuture Summit changed dates in order to maximize the value of time and presence of delegates from all over the world. We are no longer meeting in the 30-31 October 2019. The new date of our Summit is from march 30 to April 1st 2020. Now, you will also be able to enjoy the Brazilian Bioenergy Science and Technology Conference - BBEST 2020 that will take place jointly with our Summit.
The event will combine two different conferences in one: the second Biofuture Platform policy conference (Biofuture Summit II), and the fourth edition of the Brazilian Bioenergy Science and Technology Conference (BBEST 2020). The conference will be held from March 30th to April 1st, 2020, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
As a follow-up to its landmark first edition in 2017, the Biofuture Summit II will convene countries, entrepreneurs, and scientists around the world who are already trying policies, practices, and technologies to achieve this goal, and try to converge on what works and what doesn’t, and in which context; what should be replicated, and what should be avoided.
Join policy makers from the 20 Biofuture founding countries, International Energy Agency experts, and other stakeholders in the II Biofuture Summit and BBEST 2020 in São Paulo, and exchange experiences on the best practices that are taking place in various places in the world. It will be your chance to exchange lessons in national policies, innovation, technologies, financing, and supply chain management, and also help build a blueprint for the global biofuture we need!
Biofuture Summit
The first Biofuture Summit (São Paulo, 2017) was a highly successful event, gathering more than 270 delegates, including 47 speakers, from 28 countries. The previous edition of BBEST was held in the same year (BBEST 2017), bringing together 385 participants, 21 international speakers, 207 researchers, 141 students and 37 business professionals, consolidating itself as one of the most respected Bioenergy meetings in the world.
BBEST
BBEST is a triannual international conference on bioenergy now in its fourth edition, after the very positive outcome from the previous versions in 2011, 2014 and 2017, attended by hundreds of researchers, entrepreneurs and government officials from Brazil and abroad. This time, besides covering relevant aspects of bioenergy, from biomass production to conversion and final use, the 2020 edition will highlight innovation, showcasing state-of-the-art processes and products, new trends and what is creating value and actual environmental and social benefits. Dear participant of the BBEST2020 and Biofuture Summit II joint conference,
On Wednesday, March 11, the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, indicating the virus will likely spread all over the globe.
We, the conference organizers, are aware that the health and safety issues imposed by this situation will make it difficult for you to have a good experience at BBEST2020 - Biofuture Summit II.
Moreover, several governments are imposing travel restrictions for their residents, and this certainly will have a negative impact in the conference that aims to discuss global opportunities and issues related to bioenergy and the low carbon bioeconomy.
Therefore, we have decided to postpone the joint BBEST/Biofuture Summit II conference, tentatively, to November 30 – December 2, 2020. The new dates will be confirmed as soon as possible. All participants will be able to carry over their registration fees to the event that will be organized later this year.
We are sorry for having to take this action and we regret the inconvenience, but we are sure that this was the right thing to do at this unique moment.
We are confident that this situation will be normalised, thanks to the contributions of well-informed public policies and the collective efforts of health workers, institutions, and the public all around the world, and that we will be able to welcome you here in Brazil soon, to enjoy a great conference on the challenge of scaling up a sustainable low carbon bioeconomy and help put the global energy transition on track.
While you wait, please check the revamped event's website and full programme. If you haven't had the time to register yet, or couldn't participate in the original dates, this is your opportunity to join in, and help lead the path to the sustainable biofuture the world needs.
The BBEST2020 and Biofuture Summit II organisers,
Glaucia Mendes Souza (USP, BIOEN),
Luiz Augusto Horta Nogueira (NIPE/UNICAMP, BIOEN)
Renato Domith Godinho (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Biofuture Platform Chairperson)
Today, we are pleased to bring you some good news: following consultations with stakeholders and service providers, we are in a position to confirm that the joint BBEST2020 / Biofuture Summit II conference will now be held from November 30 – December 2, 2020, in the same venue – Hotel Renaissance, São Paulo.
Beyond the change of date, our expectation is that the exciting program we have put together with your help — as well as all invited speakers, guests, attendants, registrations and volunteer papers and posters — that had been accepted will remain in place by default. We may, however have to make adjustments in some cases.
As the new date is now confirmed, if you are a registered attendant, speaker, invitee, Biofuture government representative, or other partner, we invite you to update your travel preparations. Those who had travel arrangements done through the conference organization will be soon specifically contacted.
Specifically for speakers: please, confirm your plans as soon as possible by e-mail to bbest@sbbq.org.br and summit@biofutureplatform.org so that we can ratify the Program.
For authors of BBEST abstracts: you will in due time be allowed to update your submissions, as the conference will now occur 8 months after the original date. For the same reason, authors of volunteer papers who will not be able to participate in Nov-Dec will be allowed to designate representatives to present on their behalf.
