(Guangzhou Port Authority (Google Translation)) On October 16, the first methanol fuel bunkering operation for a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel at Guangzhou Port was successfully completed. On the same day, the vessel "Daqing 268" bunkered 2,300 tons of methanol (including 1,400 tons of bonded green methanol) onto the methanol-fueled Ro-Ro vessel "Guangrong" at the Nansha Automobile Port in Guangzhou Port. After bunkering, the "Guangrong," carrying over 4,300 vehicles (including 2,000 Guangzhou-based Xpeng Motors vehicles), set sail for Europe.

With the overall coordination and support of the Guangzhou Port Authority and the collaborative efforts of multiple departments including commerce, maritime affairs, customs, and border inspection, the bunkering operation and maiden voyage were completed efficiently and smoothly. This operation also successfully filled the gap in green methanol bunkering for ro-ro vessels at Guangzhou Port, making Guangzhou Port the world's first port to conduct green methanol bunkering operations on three types of vessels: container ships, bulk carriers, and car carriers, achieving full-scenario and multi-vessel type coverage for green methanol bunkering. This is a significant milestone in Guangzhou's efforts to build an international bonded fuel bunkering center and create a world-class green and low-carbon port, marking Guangzhou Port's entry into the ranks of global leaders in the field of green methanol bunkering.
It is understood that the "Guangrong" is a new generation of green large car carrier, and the first methanol dual-fuel powered car carrier to call at the Nansha car port. It is 199.9 meters long and 37.7 meters wide, with a designed capacity of 7,800 standard vehicles. Its methanol dual-fuel power system can significantly reduce emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, representing an important technological direction for the green transformation of car carriers. This voyage will stop at ports in Spain, Belgium, and other countries along the European route.

(Thousands of XPeng cars are neatly lined up next to the "Guangrong" ship, ready to be loaded and shipped.)
Weaving a dense green network, deepening and solidifying the low-carbon transformation
The Guangzhou Port Authority, committed to green port and shipping development, is accelerating the deployment of a green methanol bunkering service system, driving new breakthroughs in the port's low-carbon transformation. Since September this year, Guangzhou Port has completed the first domestic green methanol bunkering between international bulk carriers and the first green methanol bunkering for a container liner in Nansha Port Area, achieving full coverage of multiple operational scenarios including anchorage and terminal. With this successful bunkering for a ro-ro ship, Guangzhou Port has become the world's first port to achieve full coverage of green methanol bunkering for the three main ship types: container ships, bulk carriers, and car carriers. Its comprehensive bunkering service system has reached a globally leading level, exploring a feasible path for the green and low-carbon transformation of the global port and shipping industry.
Strengthening its hub function, export volume continues to climb.
Leveraging the advantages of the automotive industry cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Guangzhou Port Authority has continuously promoted the upgrading of the port's automotive export capacity, driving sustained high-speed growth in automotive exports. In the first three quarters of 2026, Guangzhou Port exported nearly 700,000 vehicles from January to September, and is expected to reach the target of 1 million vehicles for the whole year. Among them, the export volume of Nansha Automotive Port increased by 40.9% year-on-year; the export volume of the "Nansha-Europe" route increased by 2.4 times year-on-year, and the ocean shipping channel for domestically produced automobiles continued to expand.
Deepen the integration of Hong Kong and industry to serve the overall development of the industry.
To achieve Guangzhou's goal of becoming an international automotive trade center, the Guangzhou Port Authority has been continuously promoting the deep integration of the port and the automotive industry, working with leading shipping companies such as China Merchants Ro-Ro to improve the ocean-going Ro-Ro shipping route network, and increasing the deployment of green-powered vessels to provide full-chain logistics support for Chinese automobiles to go global.
Next, the Guangzhou Port Authority will continue to deepen the construction of green ports and shipping, further enrich green fuel refueling scenarios and improve refueling service capabilities; at the same time, it will seize the opportunities of global new energy vehicle foreign trade growth, continuously upgrade the whole-chain service system for automobile exports, strengthen and optimize the port-adjacent automobile industry, improve the upstream and downstream industrial chains, and continuously consolidate Guangzhou Port's position as a core hub for automobile exports in China, providing solid support for Guangzhou to build a globally influential international automobile trade center.
