Great Falls Misses Out on Federal Ethanol Funding
by Richard Ecke (Great Falls Tribune) …A proposed Great Falls ethanol plant would be the country’s first to use wheat and barley to create ethanol, according to developer Gary Hebener of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Project officials are awaiting word from the U.S. Department of Energy in the coming months on whether the plant will receive an advanced biofuels loan guarantee. The Great Falls project, proposed by Montana Advanced Biofuels, is set to be discussed at a City Commission work session at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 1. The plant already has received Phase I federal approval and is in a second phase of approval.
…Doney said the large Great Falls plant would produce both ethanol and animal feed, which Montanans currently must import. He said the plant would use area wheat and barley with lower levels of protein, rather than more sought-after high-protein wheat and barley. READ MORE and MORE
