Fishers Want Bioethanol Farms Dismantled
by Gerry Albert Corpuz and John Llyod Hoffman (All Voices) The militant fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Tuesday urged Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto to dismantle the 23 bioethanol farms previously cultivated in 23 coastal towns of the province.
While the project is currently put on hold due to the resistance of small fisherfolk and other environmental groups, Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap said Governor Chatto should start removing seaweed farms already established in 23 towns and currently hosting seedlings for seaweed in connection with the proposed bioethanol project all over Bohol between the provincial government and the Seoul-based Korean firm Biolsystems Co, Ltd.
…“Seaweeds farms are all over Bohol and the small fisherfolk are prevented from fishing near bio ethanol farms. If they get near these seaweed plantations, they will be harassed by security personnel of bio ethanol farms,” she said. READ MORE
