Ethanol Expansion May Boost Michigan Basis
by Nicole Heslip (Brownfield Ag News) Strong ethanol demand and ample supplies are two of the main reasons the Andersons are doubling ethanol production at their Michigan facility. Mike Irman, Vice President and General Manager of the Andersons’ ethanol group, tells Brownfield the expansion will double their demand for corn from area farmers to almost 50 million bushels.
“There’s enough demand for ethanol in Michigan to absorb twice as much as we’re increasing our supply by.”
He says with or without the Renewable Fuels Standard, there’s a base demand for ethanol. “Ninety-eight percent of all gasoline that’s produced in the United States now is only 84 octane, which is called subgrade gasoline, and it requires ethanol.” READ MORE includes AUDIO interview
