Don’t Forget about the Agriculture Sector

by Bill Brandon (Washington Post)  The Nov. 13 Business article “Mr. Business goes to Washington. Now what?” gave an analysis of how 15 business sectors, including marijuana and private prisons, would fare under President-elect Donald Trump. Two important sectors were missing: higher education and agriculture, including forestry. Both are vitally important to our country’s future.

Agriculture provides 2 million on-farm and farm-related jobs and supports an additional 3 million local jobs. When one includes regional food and biofuel manufacturing, equipment manufacturing and transportation associated with agriculture and agriculture products, these jobs increase by a factor of 10 or more and will continue to increase as we move from a fossil economy to a bioeconomy for much of our fuel and products currently made from petroleum.  READ MORE
