DOE to Offer Funding for Biorefinery Projects
by Erin Voegele (Ethanol Producer Magazine) The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has announced plans to issue a funding opportunity on behalf of the Bioenergy Technologies Office to support technology development plans for the manufacture of drop-in biofuels, bioproducts, or biopower in a pilot- or demonstration-scale integrated biorefinery. Plans for facilities that use cellulosic biomass, algal biomass, or biosolids as feedstock will be considered.
To be eligible, applicants are required to address one of three main priority areas. The first is pilot-scale production of biofuels from high-impact cellulosic, algal or biogas feedstocks. Second is demonstration-scale production of biofuels from high-impact cellulosic, algal or biogas feedstocks. The third is production of biopower, bioproducts and biofuels from biosolids or other waste streams.
