Center for Climate Strategies Builds Economic Transition Modeling Capacity in Cameroon

Submitted by on April 20, 2017 – 11:41 amNo Comment

(Center for Climate Strategies)  As a part of the Africa Low Emissions Development Strategies (ALEDS) project, the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is supporting local self-determination and global integration by providing training, capacity building, and technical assistance to the government of Cameroon and its university collaborators for early stage policy development and longer term strategic planning. Project support includes technical team formation, comprehensive LEDS tool development, and analysis of immediate development priorities in agriculture, transportation, and energy as well as longer term programs to enable low carbon transition of Cameroon’s economy to middle nation status.

The project is conducted in partnership with the LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP) and its co-secretariat the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), the Africa LEDS Partnership (AfLP), the European Commission and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Through its National Vision, Cameroon has identified immediate and long-term opportunities for sustainable development that can provide local improvements and global benefits through synergistic actions between its economic sectors, energy and resource systems, and environment. To support this goal, the LEDS program provides catalyst support and local capacity building for development of laws and policies in all sectors that are aligned with sustainable development goals and other national priorities, and also expand manpower, infrastructure, and investment through public and private partnerships. CCS specializes in support of local action planning through collaborative processes designed to achieve high-level national priorities and provide active public involvement in all phases of government decisions.  READ MORE
