Australia and India Tie the Knot on Biotech Research and Free Trade
by Joelle Brink (Biofuels Digest Asia) …(T)wo of the world’s major biofuel producing nations, India and Australia, announced a joint multi-million dollar biotechnology research program intended to lead to more temperature tolerant crops, better vaccines, healthier foods and greater protection for marine systems, among other benefits. The two Commonwealth nations have strong trade ties and have been collaborating informally over the past several years on biofuels and other research priorities.
Under the aegis of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund, eighteen collaborative biotechnology projects have now been awarded AU$5 million each, with additional matching funds provided by the Government of India.
