Analyst: Gas Regulation Could lLead to More Shortages
by Evan Webster (Chronicle Herald) In the wake of a provincewide gas shortage, an analyst is worried Nova Scotia’s “Byzantine” system of gas price regulation and supply management will lead to more shortages.
Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com and former member of Parliament, said the provincial and federal governments need to do a better job of monitoring the supply and demand for gasoline.

“When you have low inventory like that, you need to look elsewhere to make up the product,” he said. “Normally, we would have looked at the Irving refinery in New Brunswick. But Irving’s mandate on gasoline is E10, meaning 10 per cent of the gasoline is made of ethanol. A lot of gas stations in Nova Scotia are not equipped for E10. It requires quite a bit of retrofitting with the tanks, and we’re just not there yet.” READ MORE
