AGR Biogas and TURN2X Agree to Develop Integrated Projects to Generate Renewable Gases

(AGR Biogas) AGR Biogas and TURN2X have agreed to begin a collaborative path in the development of integrated projects to generate renewable gases by leveraging the synergies of their processes, which will allow the creation of an efficient industrial symbiosis by combining biomethane production with methanization based on green hydrogen.

The agreement establishes a long-term collaboration and contemplates the supply of biogenic CO₂, generated in the biomethane plants of AGR Biogás, to the facilities of TURN2X to generate e-methane, while in the reverse direction renewable heat will be supplied from TURN2X for the activity of AGR Biogás.

The agreement will initially be deployed in two plants located in Andalusia and Extremadura, where TURN2X's facilities will be located adjacent to AGR Biogas's biomethane facilities to allow the integration of their projects in order to produce green gas.

This collaboration will utilize biogenic CO₂ produced through biomethane upgrading at AGR Biogas plants and will facilitate the integration of renewable heat at both facilities. This configuration maximizes CO₂ utilization, increases overall energy efficiency, and reduces the carbon footprint of both plants.

The waste heat generated in the TURN2X methanization process can replace the heat source that AGR Biogas would have used to meet its heating needs, thus reducing operating costs (OPEX). Furthermore, the collaboration will explore the possibility of sharing the gas grid connection infrastructure, distributing the capital expenditure (CAPEX) associated with the injection point between both projects.

Furthermore, this cooperation between both companies will bring multiple benefits such as the advancement of industrial decarbonization through the supply of e-methane compatible with the gas network, the strengthening of energy sovereignty by reducing dependence on fossil gas imports and the promotion of efficient circularity of biogenic carbon flows, among others.

These benefits are supported by two differentiating characteristics of TURN2X technology: its flexible on-load operation, which allows it to absorb electricity during periods of low demand at prices significantly lower than those of a baseload regime, thus reducing the main cost component of e-Methane; and its modular architecture, which facilitates the installation of reactors directly next to biogenic CO₂ sources, eliminating the costs and logistical complexity associated with CO₂ transport.

AGR Biogas's CEO, David Piñero, stated that "this collaboration allows us to maximize the value of the biogenic CO₂ generated in our biomethane plants, while also benefiting from the integration of renewable heat, with a circular approach that improves plant performance and positions our facilities as central hubs of the emerging e-methane ecosystem."

For his part, TURN2X CEO Philip Kessler noted that “this cooperation represents a key milestone in the development of our e-Methane platform in Spain by integrating biomethane production with hydrogen-based methanization, achieving significant efficiency improvements and creating a scalable model for the production of clean molecules.” He added that “together we are accelerating industrial decarbonization, while strengthening Europe’s energy sovereignty.”

The agreement represents a fundamental pillar in TURN2X's strategy to develop a scalable e-methane platform in Spain. Furthermore, combining AGR's experience in biomethane production with TURN2X's Power-to-Methane technology allows for the establishment of a replicable model for integrated renewable gas centers, facilitating long-term alignment between the two partners to scale multiple projects throughout Spain.
