The capacities of the current production plants, planned expansions and new projects worry traditional biodiesel producers as they could lose market share.
Darling Ingredients announced in late 2018 plans to invest $1.1bn to expand the Diamond Green Diesel (DGD) facility in Norco, Louisiana.
The expansion will increase the facility's production capacity of renewable diesel by an additional 400m gal/year to a total nameplate annual capacity of 675m gallons.
DGD is a joint venture between subsidiaries of Valero Energy Corporation and Darling Ingredients.
