Advanced Biofuels USA Officers Met with Brazilian Presidential Candidate, Marina Silva
In the fall of 2010, Advanced Biofuels USA board member, Robert Kozak (in photo at left) and executive director, Joanne Ivancic (far right) met Marina Silva, currently a leading Brazilian Presidential candidate, at a presentation sponsored by the Brazil Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC.
In addition to supporting development of biofuels, Kozak, Silva and Ivancic shared a common bond as all three ran for office as Green Party candidates; Kozak for US Congress in Maryland’s 6th District; Silva for President of Brazil; and Ivancic as Alderman for the City of Frederick, Maryland.
Marina Silva received an impressive 20% of the Brazilian presidential vote in 2010 when she first ran for president as candidate of the small Green Party, after leaving the Workers’ Party.
More recently, political analysts view Marina, as she is known, as the principal political beneficiary of massive street protests that erupted in June 2013 in dozens of Brazilian cities, to the surprise of the government, the opposition and the media; and as a leading candidate to win the current Brazilian presidential election.
