(Wisconsin Clean Cities) Kwik Trip, Inc. – headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin – has been a Wisconsin Clean Cities member since 2011. Joel Fasnacht, Business Development Alternative & Commercial Fuels for Kwik Trip, serves on the Wisconsin Clean Cities Board of Directors.

The family-owned business was founded in 1965 and owns and operates more than 700 convenience stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

Kwik Trip is recognized as a national leader in the sustainable transportation fuels arena. The Kwik Trip fleet is an esteemed member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Clean Fleet Partnership. Kwik Trip is also part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program, which aims to reduce transportation-related emissions by creating incentives to improve supply chain fuel efficiency.

Kwik Trip has earned the top Forward Fleet Award from Wisconsin Clean Cities from 2018 to 2021. The Forward Fleet Award, presented at the Wisconsin Clean Cities Annual Stakeholder Meeting, honors members for the amount of petroleum they displaced through the use of alternative fuels and sustainable transportation options.

Kwik Trip was one of the first retailers in Wisconsin to introduce E-85, supporting Wisconsin farmers, and one of the first to offer compressed natural gas (CNG). Kwik Trip uses CNG or LNG in more than 80 percent of its own fleet and offers CNG at 35 of its locations. In 2019, Kwik Trip announced a partnership with Dane County to dispense CNG created from the county’s landfill biogas project. Kwik Trip also offers biodiesel blends.

Kwik Trip has a philosophy of recycle, reduce and reuse to save time, energy and natural resources. The company cares about the communities it serves and is committed to finding ways to reduce energy, water use and costs in all of its stores, along with constructing buildings that promote better health for its guests and co-workers. As a U.S. Green Building Council member, Kwik Trip utilizes green building practices and strives to meet or exceed green building performance standards.

The first LEED-certified Kwik Trip store opened in 2007. Kwik Trip certifies three to five new stores per year while implementing green building techniques on all new construction. Kwik Trip is also part of Energy for Tomorrow, a group of more than 800 businesses in Wisconsin purchasing renewable energy as a sustainability initiative.

Kwik Trip also supports local communities and reduces its carbon footprint by sourcing eggs, cheese, produce and most of the food it sells from farms and producers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
