Professor at UFG Is Appointed Counselor at CNPE
(Federal University of Goiás (UFG)/Microsoft Translation) On International Women’s Day, the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) received good news to mark the date: the Minister of Mines and Energy and president of the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE), Alexandre Silveira, announced the names of the four women who will make up the representation of civil society and educational institutions in the CNPE. One of the nominees is the Secretary of International Relations of UFG and professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSC), Lais Forti Thomaz. “I am honored to be able to contribute to the energy development of the country alongside women I admire. I am very much believe in the role of academia as an active agent in formulating quality and truly efficient public policies. I thank all those who have always supported me and encouraged me in the academic trajectory I have traveled,” Lais said.
Also part of the group, suzana Borschiver, professor at the School of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; Vanya Pasa, professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais; and researcher at Embrapa Environment, Marília Folegatti. According to the minister, as “the CNPE is the maximum supervisory body of the President of the Republic, Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, in the elaboration of energy policy and women represent the majority in society, nothing more fair than them being in decision-making positions on this issue that is so important and strategic for the country”. In February of this year, six new ministries were included in the collegiate, by Decree No. 11,418/2023, signed by Minister Alexandre Silveira and President Lula.
Professor Lais is a researcher at the Brazilian Network of Biokerosene and Renewable Hydrocarbons for Aviation (RBQAV); member of the Working Group (WG) of Volunteers of the Renovabio Program of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME); organizer of events on renewable energy, bioeconomy and low carbon economy; she was a contributor to a report by UNCTAD (2016) and winner of the Top Ethanol Award 2011 and the Academic Award of the National Ethanol Conference in 2015 in the United States. In her academic background, there are titles, such as the graduation in International Relations from the State University of São Paulo (Unesp), the Master’s and doctorate also in IR performed interinstitutionally by Unesp, State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). Laís also completed two postdoctoral studies, one at Unesp and the other at the University of Brasília (UnB). Professor Lais also serves as a board member for Advanced Biofuels USA. READ MORE
