Household Oil from Concepción Will Be Transformed into Biodiesel

(City of Concepción) Enthusiastic leaders of different neighborhood councils in Concepción received containers to recycle their disused home oil, which will be transformed into clean fuel: Biodiesel.

The initiative is part of the actions developed by the Environment Department of the municipality to promote care for the environment and is implemented thanks to an agreement that since last year maintain with the company General Rendering Chile SA

"We in 2016 signed this agreement that allowed us to gather approximately 165 thousand liters of oil, mainly from restaurants in the city as well as our ramadas of the Bicentennial Park. Now we are going to also add the neighbors and neighbors to give us that oil that is often voted down the drain and do not continue to occupy, we will recycle it to be transformed into biodiesel, "said Mayor Alvaro Ortiz.

"This task that we have installed as municipal management to take care of our environment must also have the commitment of the inhabitants of Concepción," added the commune.

The main objective is to manage the proper removal, transportation and transformation of vegetable oils from frying discarded from commercial premises such as restaurants, hotels, cooks and educational establishments, now also from local homes.

"We are starting with the home removal here in Concepción, it is a simple matter, people can put their oil in plastic bottles and then be deposited in the containers and thus be taken to processing plants where it is refined," explained Antonio Vergara, representative of the company .

For the president of the Board of Neighbors 13-A of Laguna Redonda, Jeanette Fuentes, this measure is excellent news that adds to others that are already implementing in their sector.

"Thanks to these programs, such as the 3R program, the vermiculture that is our composting, the recycling of batteries, plastic and now recycle the oil is very important for us as a community. We ask the neighbors to help this great campaign because with this we are helping to take care of our environment a little more and leave it better than we find it for future generations, "he said.
