Dover Fueling Solutions Announces E40 Upgrades to Wayne Ovation Fuel Dispensers

by Keith Reid (Fuels Market News) Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS), part of Dover Corporation and a leading global provider of advanced customer-focused technologies, services and solutions in the fuel and convenience retail industry, announced all North American Wayne Ovation Fuel Dispensers will be supplied as compatible and UL-listed to E40/B20 as a standard feature. The announcement extends DFS’ UL compliance from E25 to E40, with the continued option of up to E85 available across all models and configurations, and cements DFS as the first manufacturer of fuel dispensers to offer an E40 UL listing.

DFS works in partnership with the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) to prepare for fueling advancements, enhance dispenser offerings and meet infrastructure needs for future mid-level ethanol blends. Over the past six years, DFS, with the support of NCGA, have produced and sold fuel dispensers certified to deliver fuel with up to 25 percent, and now, 40 percent ethanol.

Excerpt from Clean Fuels Development Coalition: The Clean Fuels Development Coalition (CFDC) today praised the announcement by Wayne Fuel Dispensers that their North American fuel pumps will all be able to handle up to 40% ethanol blends.

Wayne is one of the leading pump manufacturers in the world and this will facilitate the need for higher ethanol blends as the U.S. works to reduce carbon emissions, lower dependence on foreign oil, and reduce mobile source air toxics. A key element in distributing higher blends through existing infrastructure is to be UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certified, which has now been accomplished.

“With pending legislation and rulemakings that would open the market to blends up to E40, this will provide certainty for retailers to take advantage of the lower costs of ethanol blends, as well as to provide environmental and health benefits”, said CFDC member Jim Seurer of Glacial Lakes Energy (GLE).

GLE has been a leading force for higher blends through the “E30 Challenge” which has resulted in hundreds of millions of trouble-free miles using E30.

This action by Wayne also supports the Next Generation Fuels Act which has been introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate and has broad bi-partisan support. It would require an octane increase that would phase in 30% ethanol blends. In addition, a fine particulate rule and the next round of fuel economy rules at EPA are likely to create opportunities for higher blends.

CFDC Executive Director Doug Durante said while the new volume requirements proposed under the Renewable Fuel Standard for the next three years are generally positive, ethanol is competing in a smaller gasoline pool and facing competition from other biofuels and now Electric vehicles. “Moving to high octane blends of 20, 25, and 30% is critical if ethanol is to maintain market share”, he said. “This ability to distribute these blends as validated by Wayne is an important step forward and would allow us to move beyond just what the RFS prescribes.”

Durante also noted the success of E40 Hybrid Vehicles in Brazil and how that could be another alternative to EVs in light the challenges EVs are facing.

CFDC officials praised the efforts of the National Corn Growers Association which had been spearheading the effort to get UL certification as well as the work of Ag-Auto-Ethanol Working Group members. READ MORE
