The production of energy from alternative sources and its impact on climate change are among the main strategic tools implicated in the sustainable development of society, particularly in this period where geopolitics and dependence on energy have become such an important issue.
Numerous types of biomass and wastes contribute towards the production of energy and reduction in the use of fossil fuels by means of biological, chemical and thermal processes. Existing biomass and waste to energy technologies are currently undergoing rapid development. Despite growing interest in use of these technologies, however, implementation in many countries remains limited.
The aim of the Venice Symposium is to focus on advances made in the application of technologies for energy recovery from biomass and waste and to encourage discussion in these fields.
The Symposium is organised by IWWG–International Waste Working Group with the scientific involvement of the Universities of Hamburg (DE), Kyoto (JP), Padova (IT), Queensland (AU), Rostock (DE), Tongji (CN), Zhejiang (CN) and Sultan Qaboos University (OM).
The programme of the previous edition included more than 160 scientific presentations organised in 3 parallel tracks of oral sessions, workshops and poster sessions, as well as daily social events and plentiful networking opportunities.
Papers should focus on one of the conference topics and be prepared using the paper template provided. Papers must be submitted in MS WORD format (.docx) using the online submission form. Proposals should be submitted in the form of full papers or short papers (at least 3-4 pages).
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 19th July 2024 NEW Deadline: September 13, 2024
Papers may be submitted for oral or poster presentation.
The official language of the Symposium is English. In addition, the Symposium will arrange a session held entirely in Italian to facilitate the participation of local delegates. Italian authors may freely submit papers for inclusion in both English and Italian sessions.
Papers will be selected following evaluation by an international panel of experts. Final destination (oral/poster) will be established according to the following criteria: request by the author, topic relevance, characteristics of the paper (highly specific, preliminary results, case study) and number of papers received on the same topic.
Acceptance of papers will be notified to the corresponding author by 26th July 2024. Authors who fail to receive notification of acceptance/rejection of their paper should contact the Organising Secretariat at info@venicesymposium.it
Please note that acceptance of your paper does not imply automatic registration in the conference. Presenting authors should register online and pay their entrance fee within 15 days of receipt of acceptance notification. Only one presenting author may register for each paper. Co-authors should register by selecting the participant option.
Each speaker may deliver up to two presentations during the conference.
Authors presenting their work in an oral session will be requested to submit their PowerPoint presentations no later than 18th November 2024, while authors scheduled for poster presentation should submit the PDF file of their posters by 15th November 2024.
All papers presented at the conference will be published in a dedicated digital volume of Symposium proceedings. Additionally, a substantial number of leading papers will be selected for possible publication in special thematic issues on renowned international journals.
