NEW DATE CAAFI General Meeting --- June 1-3, 2022 --- Washington, DC and ONLINE-free

This invitation-only meeting is an excellent opportunity for CAAFI stakeholders and leaders alike to experience the momentum of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market, a market that continues to develop and mature.

CAAFI’s Leadership Team and Steering Group have decided to postpone CAAFI’s next General Meeting from June 2021 to June 01-03, 2022. These dates coincide with a Wednesday to Friday meeting following Memorial Day on Monday, May 30, 2022, allowing Tuesday, May 31^st for travel. Others of you may plan to take advantage of the holiday alignment to spend some extra time in D.C. We plan to still use the same venue, the Yours Truly Hotel in Washington, DC.

We took this decision based on feedback from potential participants that there are still significant uncertainties with respect to corporate travel policy restrictions, available travel funding, local government meeting guidelines, and general concerns about pandemic-related risks, as well as the widespread aviation industry impacts on many of our members and supporters.

In place of the in-person meeting on June 02-04, 2021, CAAFI will host a series of webinars that week, the details of which are still being developed.

We are disappointed we won’t be getting together in-person next June, but with an abundance of caution, and a clear mitigation of uncertainties around our ability to execute in bringing you valuable content and speakers, we believe it is the right decision.

If CAAFI had followed our normal schedule, we would have planned to hold our next CBGM this fall, in 2020. However, our Canadian collaborators, under coordination with GARDN (the Green Aviation Research and Development Network), had planned to hold their inaugural SAF-focused conference entitled SAF TALK this summer in Montreal, Quebec. They have postponed this event due to the pandemic with the hopes of rescheduling the event later in the year. Stay tuned to communications from CAAFI, or by checking their website (https://www.saftalk.com/) for the latest updates. Their meeting represents a culmination of the last several years’ worth of activity and a first step to holding SAF events in Canada going forward. CAAFI and our Canadian colleagues have agreed to hold our general meetings in alternate years going forward. So, SAF Talk will be held in 2020 in Montreal and the CBGM in 2021 in D.C., followed by SAF Talk in 2022, etc.

Attendance at the CBGM is strictly by invitation only and is offered solely to CAAFI sponsors and stakeholders, and select media. As we’ve done in previous years, attendance will not be limited, either by total number, or persons per organization.

We continue to take care to constrain participation costs while still arranging an agenda chocked-full of information exchange and networking opportunities. Specific registration rates by organization type will be provided in a follow-up invitation. In addition, we have secured a block of hotel rooms at the Yours Truly DC that will be available to conference attendees at highly competitive rates.

We will again be utilizing sponsorships to defray costs and add amenities for the CBGM. If your organization has interest in sponsoring, please be sure to incorporate such in your budgeting activities this fall. We will also commence sponsorship engagement earlier for this CBGM due to the current turmoil within the aviation and supply chain sectors, so expect that to start around the end of September.

All of our sponsors remain committed to seeing SAF deliver net carbon reductions for the sector, and in turn support the broad range of CAAFI efforts targeting the near-term development and commercialization of SAF.

CAAFI’s Biennial General Meeting (CBGM) being held June 1-3, 2022 will be broadcast via a free livestream. While the in-person CBGM is an invitation only event, the livestream is open to all. Please feel free to share the link to the livestream widely.

The first day will be a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Summit focused on introducing the U.S. Government’s SAF Grand Challenge, followed by two days of more in-depth sessions focusing on the pathways to achieving three billion gallons of SAF in the U.S. by 2030 and full U.S. jet fuel replacement by 2050.

Due to an overwhelming interest in the event, the capacity at the venue has been met and we are unable to accommodate any more in-person attendees. This means we are unable to accept any on-site registration requests. This additional virtual opportunity allows for expanded engagement beyond the physical capacity of the room.

The CBGM will include plenary sessions, keynote speakers, and networking and exhibit opportunities. The working agenda is available here.
