The Summit is the algae industry's premier event, where leading producers of algae products go to network with industry suppliers and technology providers, where project developers converse with utility executives, and where researchers and technology developers rub elbows with venture capitalists.
This year the virtual Summit will explore the theme: Algae 2020 - Sustainable, Scalable Solutions.
We have reduced our pricing and extended our schedule to offer a program of webinars, live keynotes, technical presentations and networking opportunities that will explore how this industry that can address global challenges in climate, energy, ecosystem services and more. We will also be introducing virtual platforms for exhibitors and sponsors to engage with a wider audience than ever before.
Rather than a busy three-day sprint of multiple overlapping sessions, the Summit’s 2020 programming will be spread over several weeks this Fall. In August, the Summit will start with a bi-weekly series of special “Industry Spotlight” Sessions. These 90-minute sessions will bring together experts from across the supply chain to explore the algae opportunity in specific market segments. Topics will include algae in polymers, human nutrition, carbon capture, ecosystem services and more. Each webinar will include opportunities to network with speakers and participants.
On September 8-10, a program of keynote speakers, plenary panels, and intensive networking will explore the global potential of ABS’ conference theme this year: Algae 2020 – Sustainable, Scalable Solutions. Each session will be followed by live Q & A and networking events.
September 14-30 will consist of the Summit’s technical and breakout programming, with sessions from ABS’ Topical Tracks, as well as the Young Innovators Lounge for those looking to advance a career in algae, the annual Poster Session judging, and more networking opportunities. READ MORE
One Registration: Three Opportunities to Engage and Network
In August, we’ll start the Summit with a bi-weekly series of special “Industry Spotlight” Sessions. These 90-minute sessions will bring together experts from across the supply chain to explore the algae opportunity in specific market segments. Topics will include algae in polymers, human nutrition, carbon capture, ecosystem services and more. Each webinar will include opportunities to network with speakers and participants.
On September 8-10, we will host keynote speakers, plenary panels, and intensive networking. This will be where the Summit explores the global potential of our conference theme this year: Algae 2020 – Sustainable, Scalable Solutions. Each session will be followed by live Q&A and networking events.
September 14-30 will consist of the Summit’s technical and breakout programming, with sessions from our Topical Tracks. We will also host the Young Innovators Lounge for those looking to advance a career in algae, our annual Poster Session judging, and more networking opportunities that will keep the momentum in the industry going strong.
The 14th annual Algae Biomass Summit will take place September 9-11, 2020 inside Price Center at the University of California, San Diego. Produced by the Algae Biomass Organization, the Summit has become the go-to conference for commercial algae producers, the scientific community, and algae product developers that are unlocking the potential of algae agriculture to provide a more sustainable source of food, feed, biofuel, nutritional supplements, advanced materials like plastics and foams, pharmaceuticals and more. It's a true one-stop shop -- the world's premier educational and networking junction for all algae industries.
The event highlights promising applications of algae – such as wastewater treatment, nutrient management, and carbon capture and use – to safeguard our water, air and soil, including solutions to algae blooms facing Florida and other parts of the world.
Speakers and attendees at the Algae Biomass Summit will include national and international technologists, senior executives of algae producers and product developers, marketers, students researching algae science and cultivation methods, as well as local and federal policy makers tasked with advancing technology, business or solving environmental challenges.
The Summit has also become a nexus for algae industry professionals seeking make new connections and continue to build on their successes. The event includes receptions and VIP events that offer daily networking opportunities, as well as an Algae Product Showcase that demonstrates the business case for using algae in a wide range of consumer and industrial applications. A Young Innovator’s Lounge offers career advancement opportunities for a new generation of algae professionals, and exclusive tours of regional algae R&D and commercial operations give attendees a chance to see algae application first-hand.
2020 Summit tracks will focus on the following:
- Food, Nutrition, Health & Beauty
- Animal Feed & Animal Health
- Water & Nutrient Management
- Soil & Sustainable Agriculture
- Carbon Capture & Use
- Fuels & Energy
- Chemicals, Materials & Plastics
- Resource Extraction & Bioremediation
The Algae Biomass Summit is the largest, fastest-growing algae event of its kind. This growth is powered by the current strength of the industry and the positive outlook for future algae producers. The summit will help you — as an algae industry stakeholder — identify and evaluate technical and economic solutions that fit your operation. It's time to tap into your green power. READ MORE
The 2020 Algae Biomass Summit has been re-imagined for virtual participation. All of our programming will be accessible to a global audience via Zoom and Whova, the Summit’s official app.

ABO’s flagship event, the Algae Biomass Summit, is scheduled to take place this September 8-11 at the University of California, San Diego. As this crisis evolves our top priority is the health and safety of our algae community and Summit attendees. We are currently examining options that would allow us to make much of the event’s programming available online for those unable to travel this fall.
We are also examining how some of these online options could even enhance the Summit’s role as a venue for networking, sharing innovations, and learning about the latest developments in our fast-moving industry. Speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and other attendees will all find new and exciting ways to engage with the world’s largest gathering of algae professionals.
As the global situation evolves, we will keep you updated on any changes that will be required to make the 2020 Summit a success.
In the meantime, the Summit’s planning committee is moving forward with building our 2020 program. The abstracts submitted so far suggest we will have the most diverse agenda yet.
Interested in presenting your own scientific, commercial or other algae industry milestones at the Summit? You can still submit an abstract for consideration as a speaker or poster presenter.
