“They are farmers, scientists, homemakers, engineers, teachers, students, drivers, postal workers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and construction workers. They are in Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia and North America.

In Florida, Biofuels Digest announced the winners of its “Day in the Life of Biofuels” photo contest, and published the winning entries.

“Since 2000, bio-based industries have created many thousands of good-paying jobs, while bringing economic revival and energy securities to their communities. We all can be thankful for the blessings that flow from well-paid work, and the Digest is glad to publish these images as a part of the US Thanksgiving holiday.

“Biofuels Digest is delighted to share the best of the reader submissions, as a visual record of the transformation away from fossil fuels that is taking place in global society.”

The Grand Prize for photo of the year was awarded to Samuel Shiroff, for an image of an Indonesian woman preparing dinner on her Protos Plant Oil Cookstove (built by the Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances Group), using jatropha oil.

John Rae (Art Direction: Tony Catlin, Fassino Design) for an image of a Qteros fermenter at the Company’s facility in Marlborough, MA;

John Thompson, for an image from the V8 Supercars Australia series, utilizing Sucrogen BioEthanol E85;

Elizabeth L. King, for an image of Nathan VanVelzen pumping waste vegetable oil from a local restaurant for AES’s biofuelproject.com.

Leidy Wagener, for an image of Blue Marble Biomaterials chemical engineer Adrienne Bull;

Tom Riding , for an image of an alligator at PetroAlgae’s Demonstration Facility in Florida;

Doug Dugas, for an image of chemical engineering student Bridget Meaux;

Codexis, Inc,. for an image of a Codexis researcher monitoring a ten-liter fermenter facility in Redwood City, CA;

Propel Fuels, for an image of Propel Fuels CEO Matt Horton and family “Fueling Change” at a neighborhood Propel station in Redwood City, CA;
